May Quarterly Chapter Meeting

May Quarterly Chapter Meeting

May’s Quarterly meeting will feature artist and bookmaker Jody Alexander. Her current work is inspired by the art of repair, mending techniques, and reuse.

Weekend Schedule:

SATURDAY MAY 4, 10AM-Noon: Morning trunk show.

SATURDAY MAY 4, Noon-4PM, Afternoon Workshop: Boro Stitch Sampler

Students will learn stitching, patching and mending techniques that are specific to Boro and create small sampler books incorporating personal ephemera such as cloth swatches, book pages, paper ephemera and even photographs. The finished product will be a Japanese Side Sewn book that can serve as a reference for future mending projects as well as inspiration for your next art masterpiece.

SUNDAY MAY 5, 10AM-4PM, Workshop continues: Boro Bags

We will continue our exploration of Boro mending techniques on a larger piece of cloth that will be made into a Japanese style bag at the end of the class.

This workshop is appropriate for beginners wanting to learn stitching or experienced artists and makers wanting to incorporate a new aesthetic into their work.

Workshop: Registration is open now thru Saturday, April 13 for ASG members, and will open to the public the following day. Space is limited so do REGISTER EARLY.  Kit and two lunches are included.
